Incredible day hiking the Fairfield Horseshoe yesterday - 8 Wainwright’s, misnagivation, a whole load of excitable noises at being back in the high fells and an encounter with a herd of highland cattle after dark ⛰

Proper Lakeland adventure - these hills, forever pushing me out of my comfort zone 🙌🏻

🧭 Finding quieter, off the beaten track spots in the Lake District can⁣ be tricky in summer - especially this summer when so many people are⁣ staying in the UK.⁣
⁣
⛰ I absolutely fell in love with this guide last summer - two of the most memorable finds were a hidden waterfall deep in Borrowdale and⁣ inspired me to climb little Hallin fell in quieter Martindale with views over to Ullswater⁣
⁣
📖 It is my go-to for adventure planning with different sections on wild⁣ swimming, ancient forests, less-visited hills to hike and forgotten⁣corners of history.

The guide also includes the Yorkshire Dales as⁣
well as breaking down each section of the Lake District with⁣ directions & maps on how to get each spot.⁣

Three weeks ago, I accepted and started the very s Three weeks ago, I accepted and started the very same supermarket job I had when I was 17. I had an option to go return to work at the hostel where I’ve been living during lockdown until October, but I realised I was ready to call this place home, that I wanted something permanent rather than seasonal. ⁣
⁣
On the one hand, this could be viewed as a massive step back, but as I’ve written about before, location and lifestyle are a priority for me over an all encompassing job (I’ve put a link in my bio to a blog post I wrote about this last year).
⁣
At a little under full time hours, it’ll allow me to return to volunteering (my love) and begin a little idea I’ve began to develop during lockdown of starting freelancing in social media for small & creative businesses.⁣
⁣
The quiet, still days of lockdown allowed time and space to pause, to reflect.....to bring me back to myself, to remind me what makes me happy, makes me tick rather than following what I feel I “should” be doing. ⁣
⁣
An ignition of a quiet confidence I’d been missing, instead of drawing my happiness and self worth from others. ⁣
⁣
I’ve learnt that, instead of a constant striving for perfection in life and avoiding sadness and anxiety, they are, actually, part of the journey. ⁣
⁣
They are what brings life colour and definition. ⁣
⁣
Instead of running and fighting those moments, learning to accept them with grace, letting them wash over me like waves in the ocean which come and go. ⁣
⁣
This week, I’m moving out of the hostel into a house share in Ambleside. ⁣
⁣
There will be ups and downs and bumps in the road for sure. ⁣
⁣
But I’m ready now, I’m ready. I’m so, so excited for this new chapter - and I’m excited to take you along on this new adventure 😊✨

Always there will be the lonely ridge, the dancing beck, the silent forest; always there will be the exhilaration of the summits. ⁣
