Hi Carol, Thank you for your message and how lovely you are organising a family reunion 🙂 Unfortunately I have not been cheffing in the Alps for 6 or 7 years now so I’m out of touch in terms of contacts! I hope you find someone to cook for your family and you have a wonderful time 🙂

I am organizing a family reunion of 25 – 30 people for a week (20 – 27 December) over Christmas in a chalet in Les Avanchers-Valmorel, France. I need someone to cook evening dinners for us 5 or 6 days. I am looking for someone local, who purchases local ingredients to make simple family style dinners that will please children and adults. I do not need a gourmet cook, and of course, I would like to keep the budget manageable. He or she does not need to do breakfasts or lunches. Since you might be in touch with some cooks starting out, I thought you know of someone who might be interested in simple food preparation, albeit for a large crowd, but eager to take the plunge with a nice family group. Or do you know any information sources through which I could find a person like this?

I would appreciate any help or suggestions you can make to lead me to such a chef. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Sebastian, thanks for taking the time to read the article and really glad you found it useful! It’s been 6 years since I last did a ski season and I know there has been a fair amount of change amongst companies. It also depends on how much experience you have – if you have a fair amount of kitchen experience, I’d look at the mid to higher end ski companies as you will have more freedom to create your own menu and have a higher weekly food budget to work with. If you have less experience or maybe not bothered about creating your own menu, look for a mid priced ski company. I did my first 3 seasons with The Family Ski Company, who were great to work with, and I would recommend them (you do get a prescribed menu to work from, though). I did a later season with Fish and Pips, who were more high-end and gourmet and were also fantastic to work for, but I think they have far fewer catered chalets than they used to. Spend a bit of time looking at different ski companies’ websites and menus to get an idea of what they are like before applying. I hope that helps and good luck!

Comment on When is the best time to visit the Lake District? by Rebecca https://www.lookwithneweyes.com/when-is-the-best-time-to-visit-the-lake-district/#comment-36610 Sun, 07 Jul 2024 19:49:38 +0000 https://www.lookwithneweyes.com/?p=7220#comment-36610 In reply to EVELINE.

Hi Eveline, thanks for your question! Early November is usually a lovely time to visit as not only is it quiet, you can usually catch the end of the autumn colours! You can see a decent amount on a day trip, and as you are only coming from Manchester I would say you’d still be able to squeeze in a decent amount, but staying overnight might buy you a litte more time – especially as the evenings will be dark by around 5pm then. Hope you have a lovely trip and feel free to ask if you have anymore questions

I am considering to take a day tour to Lake district from Manchester around first week of November. Considering it is November, will a day trip be good enough or I should take stay there for a night?
