Celebrating climbing Wainwright number 80 on top o Celebrating climbing Wainwright number 80 on top of the iconic Old Man of Coniston on a stunning spring day ☀️

I started from Coniston, climbing up towards the old Coppermines where remnants of the old shelters and machinery remain.

A quick lunch at the stunning Low Water before the last push up the steep steps up to the summit where a lady with a dog in a Harris tweed jacket snapped my picture next to the trig point with views out to Morecambe Bay and the southern fells.

A quick out and back to Brim Fell before a steep ascent and descent again to Dow Crag before making my final descent via Goat Water 🐐

I took lots of breaks to enable early school holiday crowds to disperse, allowing me to enjoy the last straight along the old Walna Scar Road bathed in golden evening light alone.

This was actually my 2nd time up the Old Man (although not counting it in the current Wainwright stats). Looking through my Facebook memories, it was actually 10 years ago this summer since my first ascent, on what was only my second visit to the Lakes.

Who would have thought, that 10 years later I’d be calling this place home for nearly 4 years 🎉

The unexpected snow days of March continue ❄️ The unexpected snow days of March continue ❄️

After a milky sunrise, I look up from my bed, curled up reading, to see fat snowflakes falling from the sky.

They come and go all day, a dance between snow, sleet and rain.

Settling, a world temporarily transformed and then suddenly meeting away as fast as it came 💙

Short and sweet February highlights…. A perfect Short and sweet February highlights…. A perfect Yorkshire rhubarb tart at @mathildesgrasmere, moody adventures to Loughrigg Tarn & Skelwith Force, Valentines hot chocolate walks & Nutella dodgers, post hike Camembert for tea, sheep in the garden & two tarns and a Wainwight hike. Bring on the spring 🌱
I was putting off my February dip, holding out for I was putting off my February dip, holding out for a ‘warmer’ day which never really came.

Today was my last opportunity. Walking from Ambleside to Rydal, my kit packed in my backpack, I noticed the first signs of spring.

The green shots of daffodils, a few early openers in The Quiet Garden outside Rydal Hall, purple crocuses dotting the lawn and snowdrops under the giant oak tree. Signs of spring but with a nip of winter remaining in the cold wind.

Down on the shoreline of Rydal, it was quiet and still. A few walkers in the distance wrapped up in bobble hats and down jackets.

I shivered as I peeled off my layers, wading in until the burn under foot I could take no more and I lowered myself quickly into the water. I counted to 20 fast, focussing on the mountains to steady my breath before striding out and back into the comfort of my warm clothes.

In my haste though, I forgot to pack a bra and knickers to get changed into, so it made for a freeing walk home 😆

Two tarns and a Wainwright - the best way to start Two tarns and a Wainwright - the best way to start the week!

🚌Hopped on the bus to Langdale where I hiked up to Stickletarn with the imposing Pavey Ark in the background.

⛰️Left those heading to the Langdale Pikes behind and headed right towards the undulations of to summit my 79th Wainwright, Blea Rigg.

🧭I love how certain points in the Lakes you can stand and see how the valleys connect together - I could see across to Windermere, the Coniston Fells, Langdale Pikes and down towards the central fells

🥾I lost the path heading off Blea Rigg, before relocating the steep grassy trail that descends to Easedale Tarn above Grasmere - the first time I’ve had the place to myself!

A good old Monday valley hop topped off with finding real maple syrup reduced to 98p in Grasmere Co-op - absolute winner 😆
